Since its inception in 2003, the clinic has served approximately 2,000 patients per year during operating hours on Monday and Wednesday evenings. JayDoc provides urgent and preventive care services. Through the efforts of student volunteers in Social Services, JayDoc also equips patients with referrals to other Safety Net Clinics so they can find a medical home for ongoing health care. Patients are primarily referred to the clinic by other local safety net clinics, clinic website, and word of mouth. JDFC is a member of the Kansas City Safety Net Clinic Coalition, and is the only completely free clinic in the coalition. The General Clinic operates on a walk-in only basis. Specialty Clinics include Diabetes Clinic (twice a month), Prenatal and Women’s Health Clinic (twice per month), Ophthalmology Clinic (once per month), and Physical Therapy Clinic (twice per month). Appointments for Specialty clinic nights are provided through referrals from the General Clinic.
To address the linguistic, cultural, and financial barriers to health care access in Kansas City (Wyandotte County), by providing primary care services with a focus on urgent care and preventive education at no charge, integrated with on-site language interpretation. Although the clinic will be open to all, the target population will be the populations of the indigent, Hispanic, and people without access to basic healthcare.
To provide opportunities for medical students of the University of Kansas Medical Center, and ultimately students of the multi-disciplinary field of healthcare, to aid in narrowing the health disparities and concerns found within the target populations. Students will also gain experiences in establishing and operating a free clinic.
There are all sorts of individuals that volunteer at the clinic. From physicians, residents, and students.
